The fire coals or sometimes called pebbles, only appear on a few fires which don’t have a closed burner section. The coals serve two functions, the first is to allow heat to be emitted from the fire. The second is to function as a safety device and are manufactured in a way so that the combustion in the fire is optimised. If the coals are put together incorrectly it can cause harmful gasses due to incomplete combustion.
