There are two different types of electrode, the ignition electrodes and the flame sensing electrodes. The ignition electrode is also known as a spark electrode and causes a spark that starts off combustion. The flame sensing electrodes are responsible for detecting whether there is a flame in the burner, and if it is lit correctly .
